Sustainability leadership doesn’t always make headlines. Sometimes it’s a new initiative that helps an organisation reduce its environmental impact. Sometimes it’s a program that educates and engages employees. Sometimes it’s a bold idea that changes the way an industry thinks about risk, opportunity or long-term value.

Across banking and finance, individuals, teams and organisations are leading meaningful ESG and sustainability initiatives every day. The WiBF ESG and Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award exists to recognise those efforts and celebrate the people driving positive change.

As nominations for the WiBF 2026 National Industry Awards close in two weeks, we wanted to share the stories of two recent winners whose initiatives have helped shape conversations, influence organisations and create lasting impact across the industry.

Dianna Enlund

WiBF 2025 ESG and Sustainability Initiative of the Year Winner

When Dianna Enlund saw that many organisations were focused on climate reporting but paying less attention to nature and biodiversity, she recognised an opportunity to start an important conversation.

As Sustainability Solutions Director at S&P Global Sustainable1, Dianna led a series of webinars, panels and roundtables that helped financial institutions and corporates better understand nature-related risks, opportunities and their connection to climate outcomes.

The initiative challenged organisations to think beyond compliance and consider the broader sustainability landscape.

Reflecting on the recognition, Dianna says, “being able to make an impact in the industry and then to be recognised for our work through this WiBF Award is incredibly rewarding.”

Her advice to others? “If you have a great idea, don’t hesitate to put it out there. Awards like WiBF’s are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate what we do and inspire others.”

Brooke Pettit

WiBF 2024 ESG and Sustainability Initiative of the Year Winner

For Brooke Pettit, sustainability is about creating long-term value for customers, communities and future generations.

As Head of ESG and Sustainability at Bendigo Bank, Brooke helped embed sustainability across the organisation and led initiatives that empowered employees to better understand climate-related risks and opportunities. One standout achievement was a climate change education program that engaged more than half of the bank’s workforce.

Her leadership helped reinforce the idea that sustainability is not a standalone function, but a shared responsibility across the business.

Following her win, Brooke reflected on the collective effort behind the achievement, “this award was for everyone in the bank.”

Brooke later joined the WiBF Podcast to share more about her career journey, her approach to driving change, and why sustainability has become a business imperative for the financial services sector.

Her story is a reminder that meaningful change happens when people are united by a common purpose and committed to creating positive impact.

The stories of Dianna and Brooke demonstrate that meaningful change can take many forms. Whether it’s educating the market on emerging sustainability issues, embedding ESG into business strategy, or empowering colleagues to think differently, every initiative starts with someone willing to take action.
