General Manager, Head of Transaction Banking, Australia & PNG Institutional Banking | ANZ

With over 20 years’ banking and finance experience, Philippa brings a unique perspective across all aspects of Institutional banking, having held leadership roles in Markets, Relationship Lending, Trade and Cash Management. Philippa is recognised as a values-led, adaptable, and inclusive leader, who considers the customer from a holistic lens and adopts an enterprise-first approach. 

As GM, Head of Transaction Banking Australia & PNG, Philippa is responsible for $1.2bn of revenue and for ensuring exceptional customer experience for the high-volume payment flows and deposits our customers trust us with, as well as funding their working capital through trade and supply chain solutions. To win and retain customer business, ANZ Transaction Banking differentiates by staying at the forefront of digital solutions, offering world leading integrated cash management, through building both in-house solutions and partnering with leading global payment technology companies.

Over the last 5 years in Transaction Banking (TB), Philippa has benefitted from the immersion in a business at the forefront of digital transformation and fintech disruption.  Recognising the essential ingredients of applying market-leading technology with understanding customers deeply to solve their real problems, under Philippa’s leadership the TB franchise and customer satisfaction has grown to all-time highs and has become central to the Institutional growth strategy.  

As a senior leader in ANZ’s Institutional business, Philippa is a voting member on several steering committees that oversee strategic digital investments, such as the ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions JV; NPP PayTo build and go-to-market; and Institutional’s digital-first ‘Growth Portfolio’ customer proposition which she was instrumental in building. Philippa is also the Institutional representative on various ANZ Group forums including ANZ’s Innovation Sourcing Forum (previously Innovation Council) and the Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABAC) council; as well as sponsor for Institutional’s ‘Digital Front Door’ customer strategy.

The leadership roles Philippa has held have required decision making, questioning and influence across a broad range of risks. This includes credit, operational risks, negotiation of complex legal contracts, cyber and technology event ‘war room’ scenarios and partnership integration risks.

To assess risk and make decisions, Philippa likes to surround herself with strong leaders and subject matter experts, empowering them to participate in decisions and has honed her ability to ask critical questions and make decisions in the grey. 

Philippa holds a Masters in Finance, a Bachelor degree in Economics and Finance and is a Graduate of the Australian Company Directors Course.
