Our Speakers:
Su-Lin Ong (Moderator)
Managing Director, Chief Economist and Senior Relationship Manager, RBC Capital Markets
Su-Lin Ong has led the Economics and Fixed Income Strategy team for AU/NZ since 2010 and was Head of AU Research, including oversight for equity research, from 2015 to 2019. Su-Lin is part of the global strategy team with primary responsibility for formulating and presenting RBC’s AU/NZ macroeconomic outlook, cash rate view and bond yield forecasts. She works closely with sales and trading across fixed income, currencies, and equities in Australia as well as key RBC offices across the globe. Prior to joining RBC in 1998, Su-Lin was a fixed income economist for Hambros Bank and before that worked as an economist at the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet in Canberra.
She is a former Director of Business Spectator and Executive of NSW/ACT FINSIA Regional Council and CEDA’s Economic Policy Committee. Su-Lin holds a BEc from the University of Sydney, Post Graduate in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia, is a Fellow, FINSIA, and scholarship recipient and recent graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Adam Boyton
Head of Australian Economics, ANZ
Adam leads the Australian Economics team in providing macroeconomic analysis and insights on the Australian economy.
Adam was previously the National Skills Commissioner, leading an organisation of around 150 people that provided analysis and advice on labour markets, skills needs and vocational education and training to the Australian Government. Prior to taking that role he was the Chief Economist at the Business Council of Australia. Adam has also worked at Deutsche Bank, where he held the positions of Head of Fixed Income Research and Chief Economist – Australia. He started his career in the Australian Treasury and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Adam has also held board positions on the NSW Rural Assistance Authority, the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust, the NSW Rice Marketing Board and the NSW Skills Board.
Belinda Allen (B Ec with B App Fin), CFA
Senior Economist (Executive Director), Commonwealth Bank
Belinda is a Senior Economist at the Commonwealth Bank. She has extensive experience as a financial markets economist. Belinda joined the Commonwealth Bank in 2017. Her work primarily involves developing and communicating views and forecasts on the Australian economy.
Prior to joining the Bank, Belinda spent over 10 years at Colonial First State Global Asset Management (now First Sentier), the Bank’s former asset management arm as a Senior Analyst in the Economic and Market Research team. Belinda holds a Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and has been awarded the CFA designation.
Belinda Cheung
Director, Economics and Capital Markets team, Future Fund
Belinda Cheung is a Director in the Economics and Capital Markets team at the Future Fund, Australia’s sovereign wealth fund. She is part of the Investment team, with primary responsibility for formulating the Australian and global macroeconomic outlook, along with forecasts for the cash rate and bond yields. Prior to joining the Future Fund, Belinda was a Senior Economist at Aware Super, a Director in the Fixed Income and Currency Strategy team at Commonwealth Bank and a Senior Economist and Manager at the Reserve Bank of Australia where she started her career. Belinda holds a combined Bachelor of Economics/Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Economics from the University of New South Wales.
Mahjabeen Zaman
Head of FX Research, ANZ
Mahjabeen is the Head of FX Research at ANZ. Her team is responsible for forecasting the outlook for the major global economies and FX markets. In particular, the team’s area of focus is on major macro trends evolving offshore and their impact on core markets in Australasia.
Mahjabeen has close to twenty years of work experience in global markets, having previously worked at Citibank, prior to joining ANZ. Her earlier experiences include working at Deutsche Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard Chartered Bank, based in Asia, with a focus on Global Macro, FX and Bond markets. Mahjabeen has a strong local and international media profile, with regular appearances on Bloomberg, CNBC, BBC, and ABC. She was awarded the Most Influential Asian Australian Leaders Award in the corporate category in 2022.
She holds a Bachelors degree from London School of Economics and a Masters degree from University of Exeter, UK. She is also a holder of Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) charter and has completed a CFA in ESG Investing. Mahjabeen is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
