Understanding Workplace Equality & Respect – A How-To Guide
14th May @ 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm AEST
Sexual harassment is never ok, but now Employers have a legal requirement to prevent it in the workplace. Today we will help you understand your role in meeting the Respect@Work Amendments that shift the burden to employers to prevent and address sexual harassment and violence occurring in the workplace. In line with Workplace Health and Safety laws, the new amendments require workplaces foster and maintain a ‘psychologically safe’ workplace, that does not “subject another person to a workplace environment that is hostile on the ground of sex.” Workplace will have to demonstrate that they have taken all ‘reasonable’ steps to ensure a workplace, including its culture, mitigates the risk of sexual harassment occurring.
By the end of this webinar, participants will understand:
– Sex discrimination and sexual harassment are serious problems affecting Australian businesses—with serious productivity and other costs to businesses.
-Employers have a positive duty, under the Respect at Work Act 2022, to take measures to prevent certain discriminatory conduct, including sex discrimination and sexual harassment.
-The need to take a risk assessment and management approach to preventing sex discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace—in a similar way to other workplace health and safety risks.
-Understand how to address sex discrimination and prevent violence against women, including sexual harassment—in the workplace and beyond.
