Introducing Jorden Lam, Head of Member Services & Operations at HESTA. A role where she gets to “lead an amazing multi-functional team to drive impactful outcomes and positive experiences for HESTA’s members who work tirelessly in the health and community services sector.”

Jorden attended WiBF’s 2022 Award Celebrations at the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney, she notes that the event was “energising, inspiring and full of women fostering a community to lift one another.” As a 2022 WiBF Award Winner, Jorden shares that “it has been a privilege – to be recognised” for her “contributions and to be able to be on a platform to role-model for other women in the industry” and that it makes her feel “humbled and proud.”

Jorden’s advice to women growing their career is to “be vocal about where you want to get to and ensure you foster positive relationships with those who can coach you on how to get there.” Jorden shares that a great lesson in her own career journey was “being willing to take a risk”, she adds that quitting her job in private practice allowed her to go with her “gut to join an industry that was full of potential and growth opportunities.”

When it comes to ‘standing out from the crowd’ at work, Jorden’s advice is to “seek out those that make you feel safe to speak your mind, and to jump at opportunities to develop your capabilities outside of your comfort zone. Chasing diverse experiences where you can add value beyond what is in your remit and it will help you to stand out from those that stay in their lane.” Those are some wise and inspiring words that we are sure many will be nodding away to as they read it.

Besides Jorden’s impressive career, you may be surprised and interested to learn that Jorden holds a motorbike license. Jorden also added that and maybe something that her colleagues would be surprised to learn is that she loves camping and no we don’t mean glamping we mean the kind where there are no facilities! We think that qualifies Jorden to be pretty outdoorsy and brave because let’s be honest many of us think glamping is roughing it!

With a 2022 WiBF Award in hand, Jorden leaves us with this advice “follow your gut” just as she did which led her to an amazing career journey within the banking and finance sector.
