Share Your WiBF Story – Damian Kwok

We’re pleased to share this Q&A with Damian Kwok, reflecting on his journey with Women in Banking and Finance and his long-standing involvement with the community through ANZ, a Diamond Member of WiBF. In this conversation, Damian shares what first sparked his passion for advancing women in finance, the impact of mentoring through WiBF’s Mentoring for Success Program, and why community, connection, and continued action remain critical to driving meaningful change across the industry.

Q. How did your organisation first get involved with WiBF?
ANZ has been a long-time sponsor of WiBF and is a Diamond Member.

Q. What drew you to become part of the community?
My passion for advancing women in finance began years ago while working in South Korea. I saw first-hand that one of the country’s greatest untapped resources was its highly educated female population. Realising this sparked a deep commitment in me, and since then, championing the growth and advancement of women in banking and finance has been a personal mission.

Q. What has been the biggest benefit of WiBF membership for you, your organisation and/or your people?
WiBF offers a structured platform for people who are passionate about driving change. It enables those who want to give back and those who want to grow to come together, access valuable resources, and build a strong community aligned to a shared purpose.

Q. Can you share an example of a WiBF event, program, or initiative that had a meaningful impact for you?
I had the privilege of serving as a mentor in the Mentoring for Success Program for four years. It was incredibly fulfilling to share my experiences and play a small part in helping talented women navigate pivotal stages in their careers.

Q. Have you or your colleagues developed new skills, confidence, or connections through WiBF?
Absolutely. WiBF’s content and programs have helped colleagues strengthen their leadership skills and broaden their development beyond what is typically offered within our own organisations.

Q. How has WiBF helped support leadership, career development, or workplace culture in your organisation?
WiBF provides a valuable alternative pathway for professional growth and capability uplift. It complements internal programs by offering broader perspectives, unique experiences, and a community that inspires continuous development.

Q. What has stood out to you most about the WiBF community?
The passion of its members. Everyone is deeply committed to WiBF’s mission and generous with their time, expertise, and support – which creates a genuinely uplifting and energising environment.

Q. Have you built connections or collaborations that you might not have found elsewhere? Can you give examples?
Yes. Although financial services is a relatively small industry, WiBF has expanded my network into adjacent sectors. For example, I’ve been able to collaborate with colleagues from the superannuation industry – an area I hadn’t previously worked closely with.

Q. Why would you encourage others in the banking and finance sector to engage with WiBF?
WiBF offers a safe, supportive space to connect with others who share a passion for advancing women in finance. It’s a meaningful way to build community while contributing to positive industry-wide change.

Q. What excites you about continuing your journey with WiBF?
While we’ve made significant progress, there is still so much more to achieve. I’m excited by the opportunity to continue driving this important agenda forward and to support the community through my experiences. Contributing to lasting progress is both inspiring and deeply rewarding.

Damian closed with, “I am filled with gratitude. Being part of WiBF is truly humbling, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to contribute to a community that is making a real difference.”
