5 Minutes That Could Change Your Workday: Join Our Meditation Series Running Until December 2026
22 Apr 2026
In a fast-paced work environment, stress can quietly build throughout the day, tight deadlines, back-to-back meetings, constant notifications. Most of us push through without realising that one of the most powerful tools to reset and regain focus is something we’re doing every second: breathing.
There’s a direct connection between your breath and your heart rate. When you inhale, your heart rate naturally increases. When you exhale, it slows down. It’s a simple physiological response, but one that can have a profound impact on how you feel.
Under stress, our bodies release cortisol, often leading to quicker, shallower breathing patterns. Many of us spend the day with inhales that are longer than our exhales, unintentionally keeping our heart rate elevated and reinforcing feelings of anxiety or tension.
The good news? You can interrupt that cycle in just a few minutes.
By consciously slowing your breath and lengthening your exhale, you signal to your nervous system that it’s safe to relax. A simple technique to try is a 3-second inhale, expanding your belly, followed by a 5-second exhale, gently drawing the belly back in. Practised for just a few minutes, this can help lower your heart rate, calm your mind, and reset your focus.
This is exactly the kind of practical, accessible technique we explore in our May Meditation Series.
Each fortnightly session is designed to fit seamlessly into your workday, offering guided practices that help you pause, reset, and return to your day feeling more grounded and focused.
What to expect this May at WiBF:
Start your day with intention. This session combines breathing techniques, body scanning, and visualisation to guide you into a state of deep relaxation, helping you feel calm, centred, and ready to take on the day ahead.
End your day on a positive note with Metta meditation (loving-kindness practice). This powerful technique encourages you to send and receive warm wishes, to yourself and others, helping to quiet your inner critic, boost your mood, and strengthen your sense of connection. Research has shown it can help reduce stress, anxiety, and even symptoms of depression.
Taking just 5 minutes for yourself might feel like a luxury, but it can be the difference between powering through your day and feeling in control of it. If you’re looking for a simple, effective way to manage stress, improve focus, and support your wellbeing at work, this series is a great place to start.
Join us this May and discover what just 5 minutes can do.
